[Opinion] Xbox Cloud Is NOT Magical

Image
I keep coming across information on the internet about how this new founded Xbox cloud is supposed to be so great.  I'm not sure why people think that the cloud is supposed to change the face gaming but to each his own.  Check out the video and listen to me rant about this for a while.

[Opinion] Why I'm Not Buying A Next Gen Console

Image
These are my views on why I don't want or need a next generation console.

Violent Video Games

Saying violence in video games causes real life violence is a lot like saying porn on the internet has caused more babies.  It's completely stupid and ignorant argument at best.  With this Presidential administration spouting out complete nonsense towards video games and the many unfortunate incidents involving kids and guns, you would think that video games would suffer.  That doesn't seem to be the case though.  Matter of fact the exact opposite seems to be happening.  The video game industry has been stomping on the movie industry for awhile now.  This has put the same target on their backs as the movie industry had had during the days of the 80's action movies. I personally grew up on video games with the Atari 2600 being my first console.  We also had a computer in the house since I can remember.  I know everyone is different but I've spent a good part of my life in front of games and not once have I had the want or the need to commit any s...

[Opinion] Rift Going F2P and Why I Like PC Gaming

Image
In this video I talk about Rift going free-to-play and why I like PC gaming for the possible upcoming console refugee.

Xbox One and Broadband Internet

Image
Microsoft recently announced that they would requiring that their newly unveiled Xbox One will have to be connected to the internet.  I know that they danced around the details about what that actually meant and they said that you would not have to be connected to the internet.  But at the end of the day, you will have to be connected to play games according to  The Verge .  This among other things has caused a huge uproar in the gaming community.  My personal thoughts are that it is okay to have to be connected to the internet to get those really shiny features but completely ridiculous to make the consumer have to be connected.

The New PC vs Console Debate

PC vs Consoles.  Anyone that plays video games has heard this debate or argued it themselves at least once.  I'm not here to rehash this debate but think that you should look at it from a different perspective.  The line between computers and consoles becomes more and more blurred.  I personally believe that the new consoles reported to be released by the end of this year will be little more then purpose built computers. More or less exactly the same as the one you surf the internet and do your homework on, but with a more narrow focus of what it actually does in mind. The introduction of the Steam Box not only blurs the line between console and computer but will bridge the two.  Essentially a computer that's dressed like a console.  Steam could make a huge splash in the living room gaming market with the right moves and really change the landscape of couch potato gaming. With all these options that are not very different at all, I think the c...

[Opinion] Upgrades Galore

Image
I know I haven't been posting but there's a good reason for that. I swear. LoL. I recently just upgraded my motherboard from the very ancient motherboard and CPU combo last week. Went from the AMD64 platform to the Intel side. Got a 1.83ghz e6300 that's clocking nicely to 3.0ghz on the stock cooler and voltages. I also picked up a GTX 285 by BFG that comes stock overclocked.  Huge leap from my very old nVidia 6800xt.  Well as anyone has planned for anything can tell you, sometimes a snag in your plan appears.  I got the video card home.  Opened up my case.  Looked at the connectors and the power requirements of the new video card again and realized that my power supply wasn't gonna cut for this beast of a card.  Back to the drawing board.  I'll be looking for a new power supply now before I'm able to run my new video card. That's how the cookie crumbles. I know this isn't the very latest and greatest in hardware but I'm not part of that crowd.  ...

PC Gaming - Returning To My Roots

Here's some quick commentary talking about leaving the Xbox camp and going back to PC.  This is my first video so leave suggestions on how to improve.  Of course rate, subscribe, and/or comment.  It helps in so many ways.  Now to the video...

Xbox 360 (slim) or PS3 (slim)?

Image
PlayStation 3 (left) or the Xbox 360 (right) Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3? Like a lot of folks this year, money became really tight around the Christmas holidays.  I sold my Xbox 360 then my PlayStation 3 to ensure that I got through the holidays with arms and legs intact.  Now that the holidays are over and income tax refunds are right around the corner, I'm looking to replace one of them soon.  The dilemma is I have personally owned both systems and still can't decide which system I want to waste countless hours on.  Here are some of my personal thoughts.

[Opinion] Working on New Game Rig

I'm looking to build another PC after the Christmas holidays.  I'm looking at about $600 to $700 for the components that I will need to get. Below is what I have wish listed so far for the project.

[Opinion] Budget Game: Uncharted: Drake's Fortune

Image
I'm a recent convert from the Xbox 360 to the PS3.  With that I have to rebuild my library of game titles which anyone who has shopped for the now generation games can tell you is no cheap matter.  I'm going to start reporting here budget and discounted PS3 titles that I've found that may not be the latest hype but are still great games to have and play.

Thoughts: Tech Industry Wars

Adobe is mad at Apple. Google is trying to be friends with Adobe but is having a disagreement with Apple. Microsoft doesn't like anyone but will play the game for their own advancement. Blah, blah, blah. Sounds a lot like some high school drama that these, and I use the term loosely, respected tech giants are partaking in.

Ubuntu 10.04: Make the Switch From Windows

Image
Ubuntu 10.04: Impressions Let me start with some really brief history. I’ve been aware of Linux since about 1999 or about. I’ve used it actively since around 2003 on and off and always have been a supporter of Linux and it’s philosophy. Especially growing up through the dot com boom and realizing that all those shiny software packages, suites, and games can cost you a fortune.

Girls & Video Gaming

Image
As of late it has become quite trendy for girls to be considered a gamer.  At least that’s what corporate video gaming world entities like Xbox would like you to think.  On Xbox Live they heavily promote the idea via short shows like Girls Go Geek, Felicia Day’s The Guild, and host Trixie360.  Just type in pink Xbox 360 and you will find plenty of options for pink peripherals for your beloved Xbox.  So we know they’re out there.  But the reality of it is I think it’s more similar to my own experience.  Yes more girl gamers are out there but it’s not the same as what we consider a boy gamer or gamer in general. I have managed to get my wife on occasion and my 14 year old daughter to play video games but it’s a whole different “session” than when I play by myself or with my boys.  The boys who are 15 and 11 years old are probably the what is considered the typical type gamer.  We load up on a regular basis Grand Theft Auto 4, Guitar Hero, Gears of...
