[News] Nexus S Released Today!

The almighty Nexus S made by Samsung in cooperation with Google is being released today.  As of right now I believe they can only be picked up at Best Buy.  Much better than last release of the Nexus that was exclusive to Google's website for a long time.

Why all the excitement over yet another smartphone sporting the Android operating system?  Several reasons.  This phone is the new official development phone.  Development phones get the latest and greatest in Android updates before the general public does.  For Samsung Galaxy S users, this could mean an Android 2.3 Gingerbread port that the community has been waiting on for so long.  This isn't guaranteed but the development community works magic when it comes to hacking these phones like none other.  For those who don't know, the Samsung Galaxy S encompasses the Galaxy S in Europe, Vibrant on T-Mobile, Captivate on AT&T, Epic on Sprint, and last but not least, the Fascinate on Verizon.  There are other Galaxy S phones that have been released since these four such as the Continuum but I'm not sure of how closely related the lower end Galaxy line of phones are or how they will be impacted by possible Nexus S ports.

Although not personally impressed by the Nexus S itself, I have to admit I'm somewhat excited about the release of Google's newest super phone.  The more attention and hype Google can surround itself with concerning their mobile operating system the better for the consumers.  I know the subject of iPhone vs. Android can be a touchy one for some but the fact remains that Android has positioned itself to pass Apple in sales by Q1 of 2012.
